…by my side, while my husband (Zach) plays guitar in the background.
As a kid, I wanted to be a photographer, but the practical side of me decided that wasn’t a good idea. So, I studied English with a concentration in marketing instead and fell in love with web copy development, SEO, social media, and the rest of the marketing world.
What I never would’ve guessed is that my marketing background is exactly why I’m able to be a full-time photographer today! I started working in the marketing industry in 2012, and after our wedding in 2015, my wedding photographer asked if I would start second shooting for her. Later that year, I started my own photography business as a side hustle to have some fun while making a little money.
I spent three years working around the clock. From 9-5, I was Treefrog Marketing’s content director, and at night and on the weekends, I was shooting, editing, and not sleeping. It was time to make a career choice.
I chose photography! And, I’m so glad I did!
I firmly believe that my marketing knowledge is why I’m able to be a full-time photographer. Because I know how to get my work in front of and speak to my best customers, I get to do what I love every day. I’m living my best life and want to help you do the same!
…Devin, and our cat, Dior.
Based in Lafayette, Indiana, I’m a photographer for romantic and joyful couples who want their wedding days to be authentic.
I’ve been working as a photographer since 2006 and photographing weddings since 2012 (Fun Fact: My photography career started in the music industry!). When I started shooting weddings, I noticed other photographers were getting published, and I dreamed of the day that I’d see my photos in one of my favorite wedding magazines or blogs.
After submitting and getting denied, I got discouraged and didn’t know what I was doing wrong. But, I kept submitting and submitting and submitting.
Finally, it all clicked! Once I started curating my submissions the right way, I was able to get published, and pretty soon, my inbox was filled with publication acceptance emails!
Today, my work has been published more than 100 times, and I shoot 25 weddings a year for my ideal clients. I get to work with my ideal couples because I know how to reach them through publications, social media, blogging, and other marketing tactics. I love what I do and am so excited to share my marketing knowledge at this marketing workshop for photographers like you!
